Are you interested in volunteering for our Art Docent Program and helping teach art in the classroom? Join us to welcome to another year of bringing art experiences to kids! No experience is needed, just a love of art.
Our Art Docent orientation is tonight at art room at SWES at 6:30. The art room is located right across from Mrs. LeWarne & Mrs. Haugen’s kindergarten classrooms. The front door will be open so come right on down to art room. Please come, even if it not for entire time, or you still aren’t sure if this is the volunteer opportunity for you yet. We are looking forward to getting the year off to a great start with art!
See you there, and bring any interested friends and community members.
If you have questions, or what to volunteer but can’t make it, please contact Betsy Gmerek.
Don’t forget to turn in those nomination forms for the Golden Orca Awards! Nominate a classroom or school volunteer who has a made a difference in the classroom or your childs life. Forms can be found in your childs Take Home Tuesday Folder from this week.
The 5th annual Whidbey Festival of the Arts k-12, at SWHS-(May 29, 30), is almost here. Please spread the word!
Saturday at 2 PM is the SWE Talent show, and then Gloria Ferry Brennan will perform on violin (time TBD).
Friday evenings performances include LMS and HS jazz bands. Smaller ensembles will play in the courtyard over Friday night and Saturday, like Island Dance groups and Island Strings.
The event is sponsored by The SWE Volunteer Art Docent Program, The Whidbey Island Arts Council Artist in Residence Program, and SWSD.
Please share the poster, and with your help, we will have an even greater attendance this year.
We also still need adult and MS-HS volunteers to help prep some art displays and for working hands on art/crafts activities during the event.
Send me or Cailyn Murray email@example.com any contact info for volunteers!
Where there is heart, there is ART!

SWEPTA like most PTA’s is based on Volunteer support! If we can get many parents to volunteer for even just one event each we would have a ton of support. The following is from our Volunteer page, currently we are in need of Jog-A-Thon Volunteers for Monday 10/13/2014.
SWEPTA is planning a lot of exciting events and activities. If you have some time to share and would like some more information, please CONTACT US. Thank you for taking the time to volunteer at our schools. Your time and effort are truly appreciated! We love our volunteers!
Jog-a-thon – This is SWEPTA’s one and only major fundraiser for the year and happens in September/October. The proceeds go to fund all SWEPTA’s programs and activities for the school year.
Bingo – This is one of SWEPTA’s most exciting events of the year and happens between January – March. We need event organizers, prize solicitors and volunteers for the event.
Family Activities – These are evening events held through out the year organized to promote family interaction. Events may be dances, movie nights, sports theme activities, ice cream socials and other special programs. Volunteers needed to plan and organize events.
Science Day – This is a One day event in the middle of the School Year. Volunteers are needed to be presenters and also host the events, bringing lunch for presenters or assisting at presentations.
Hospitality – This committee is responsible for all the goodies provided at various functions through out the year. If you like to bake this is the committee for you!
Legislative – If you are interested in politics and how they affect our educational system here is an opportunity to learn what role the PTA has in the decision making process locally, statewide and nationally.
Art Docent – You don’t need to be an artist, just have an appreciation of the importance of art for our students. The curriculum is provided for all art docent volunteers. You visit the classroom once or twice a month to show and talk about a famous artist and their work. Then the students create an artwork based on the technique of the artist presented. Later in the year, there a need for volunteers with Festival of the Arts, a community art show for the students to show their work created in this program throughout the year.
Staff Appreciation – Each May SWEPTA thanks the teachers and staff of the Elementary School and Bus Barn with a week of fun events. Join us in decorating the classroom doors, providing lunch goodies, or even washing their cars.
· September 30th through October 13th Get Pledges With the help of a parent, students ask friends, family & neighbors to make a pledge. They can pledge a flat donation or a donation per lap. Pledge form to use is attached.
· October 13th Jog-A-Thon Day Bring your Jog-A-Thon pledge form to school and turn into your teacher. Wear good running shoes and be ready to run, jog, walk and have a blast! During lunch recess students will complete as many 1/8 mile laps as they can. Parent volunteers will tally their laps and fill out the remainder of their sheet, attach an envelope to their pledge sheet and send it back home on 10/14.
· October 14th through October 22nd Go Collect those Pledges With the help of parents. Students collect all remaining pledges/donations and return them to their teacher in a sealed envelope with their pledge form to qualify for raffle entries and classroom prizes. Remember you help win a pizza party for your class or an awesome prize for yourself!
We are looking for volunteers who can help check in presenters, bring food, setup lunch or help in the classroom. We could use your help for 30 minutes or the entire day. If you are interested in being a volunteer or have any questions or comments please contact Tonya Henny – Science Day Volunteer Cordinator (phone 321-0880 or e-mail
