4th Annual Holiday Market

Seeking Vendors

SWEPTA (South Whidbey Elementary PTA) is still currently looking for a few more vendors for our December 3rd Holiday Market!

This is a community event to get Whidbey Island area crafters and artisans in one place for locals and visitors to shop.  There are no commercial or direct sales booths/products at this event.  It is all handmade/handcrafted/embellished or services in our area.

The market will be in the gym, this is our 4th year holding this event and it is a fundraiser for the PTA.  The last 3 years we raised money for the school, and while the event was small, it also put money back into other homes and small businesses in our community and all the vendors wanted to return.  We are already expecting more vendors this year then in years past.

* 2 booth sizes available 10×10 for $25 (limited) and 8×4 for $15, no additional commissions!!!

* You must provide your own table(s) and chair.

* Contact us ASAP, we are taking late applications until 11/30 or spots are full (could be sooner or later).  This is not a juried event but we do limit duplicate booths so don’t wait.

* Due to safety we can not have pets or small children in vendor booths unless they are infants please.

Some of the types of booths we are looking for, but are NOT limited too: Pottery, jewelry, clothing, toys, fiber wears, art, holiday decor, home decor items, small gifts and lots, lots more!

If interested contact Kymy Johnson the event coordinator.

There are only 2 weeks left of summer vacation which means time for back to school shopping!  Here are the supply lists provided by the school.  Your child should have received the name of their teacher for the 2016-2017 school year on the back of there last report card in June along with a copy of the list.  If you did not receive if the office is open as of this week from 9-noon & 1-3pm Mon-Fri for copies of the list.  Kindergarten parent letters will be mailed out soon and class lists will be posted on the main doors of the school a few days before school starts.  We have also included information about free & reduced lunch as well as the RTL’s Back to School Project.

Free and Reduced Meals
If you feel you may qualify for the free or reduced lunch/breakfast program, please complete a Free and Reduced Meals form that is available at the front office or via the district website and return it to your child’s school on or before the first day of school. This form must be filled out annually.   If you were provided a form from DSHS stating that you qualify for the program, please provide a copy along with your application form. Please contact the school if you have any questions.

SWEPTA Presents Family Fun Movie Night!

Holiday Box Tops & Labels For Education Drive

*This fundraising event is for, and is by SWES, but SWEPTA wants to help spread the word.*

Now through 1/8 South Whidbey Elementary School is going to be hosting an all school Box Top & Labels for Education Drive!  The class* that collects the most Box Tops (expired ones will not count) and Labels for Education (must have logo & barcode) will win a pizza party!  Not only that, but ALL classes that collect 400 or more will get a popcorn party.   That averages out to less than 20 box tops or labels for education per student.

Our school earns .10 for every box top that we turn in that has not expired.  If we averaged 20 box tops per student we would raise over $1100.  The money raised from these goes to a variety of things including playground equipment and rain day recess supplies and equipment.  Box Tops can be found on a variety of products from breakfast cereal, to cleaning supplies like garbage bags, and even office supplies like your printer paper!  You can find a full list of participating products here:

labels for educaiton

Labels for Education can be found on a large variety of food products.  We get points for every valid label submitted and can use those points to purchase a variety of playground & classroom supplies based on our current needs. You can find a full list of participating products here:
Don’t buy many products that have these?  Ask friends, family & neighbors (with your parents’ permission of course) if they can collect them for you too!

Just turn your Box Tops & Labels for Education into your teacher on a collection sheet, in a zip top bag or an envelope with your teachers name on it.  These are class competitions only, so it does not need student names, just the teachers. More printable collection sheets can be found on the site or in the front office. We will announce the winner after winter break!

Questions?  Contact the drive coordinator Kymy Johnson.

*Because the Callahan’s 5th grade classes are combined, theirs will be collected together and they have to collect twice as many as a single class to win, and 800 to earn a popcorn party.

Art Docent Volunteer Orientation

Are you interested in volunteering for our Art Docent Program and helping teach art in the classroom? Join us to welcome to another year of bringing art experiences to kids! No experience is needed, just a love of art.

Our Art Docent orientation is tonight at art room at SWES at 6:30. The art room is located right across from Mrs. LeWarne & Mrs. Haugen’s kindergarten classrooms. The front door will be open so come right on down to art room. Please come, even if it not for entire time, or you still aren’t sure if this is the volunteer opportunity for you yet. We are looking forward to getting the year off to a great start with art!
See you there, and bring any interested friends and community members.

Volunteer Opportunities

SWEPTA like most PTA’s is based on Volunteer support!  If we can get many parents to volunteer for even just one event each we would have a ton of support.  The following is from our Volunteer page, currently we are in need of Jog-A-Thon Volunteers for Monday 10/13/2014.

Volunteer Opportunities

SWEPTA is planning a lot of exciting events and activities. If you have some time to share and would like some more information, please CONTACT US.  Thank you for taking the time to volunteer at our schools.  Your time and effort are truly appreciated!  We love our volunteers!

Jog-a-thon – This is SWEPTA’s one and only major fundraiser for the year and happens in September/October.  The proceeds go to fund all SWEPTA’s programs and activities for the school year.

Bingo – This is one of SWEPTA’s most exciting events of the year and happens between January – March. We need  event organizers, prize solicitors and volunteers for the event.

Family Activities – These are evening events held through out the year organized to promote family interaction. Events may be dances, movie nights, sports theme activities, ice cream socials and other special programs. Volunteers needed to plan and organize events.

Science Day – This is a One day event in the middle of the School Year. Volunteers are needed to be presenters and also host the events, bringing lunch for presenters or assisting at presentations.

Hospitality – This committee is responsible for all the goodies provided at various functions through out the year. If you like to bake this is the committee for you!

Legislative – If you are interested in politics and how they affect our educational system here is an opportunity to learn what role the PTA has in the decision making process locally, statewide and nationally.

Art Docent – You don’t need to be an artist, just have an appreciation of the importance of art for our students.  The curriculum is provided for all art docent volunteers.  You visit the classroom once or twice a month to show and talk about a famous artist and their work.  Then the students create an artwork based on the technique of the artist presented.  Later in the year, there a need for volunteers with Festival of the Arts, a community art show for the students to show their work created in this program throughout the year.

Staff Appreciation – Each May SWEPTA thanks the teachers and staff of the Elementary School and Bus Barn with a week of fun events. Join us in decorating the classroom doors, providing lunch goodies, or even washing their cars.
