“I Belong.”

The Reflections Art Program is a long-standing National PTA initiative that celebrates student creativity in schools across the country. At South Whidbey Elementary, we’re proud to participate in this program that encourages students to express themselves through the arts and connect to a broader community of young creators. Each year, students are invited to explore a new theme through original works of art. For 2025–2026, the theme is “I Belong!”—a powerful prompt that invites reflection on identity, community, and inclusion.

Participation is open to all SWES students from ITK through 5th grade. Whether your child loves to draw, write, paint, or imagine stories, Reflections offers a chance to be seen, celebrated, and even recognized at the state and national levels.

HOW TO ENTER

For the 2025–2026 school year, SWEPTA is accepting student entries in the following two Reflections categories. Students may submit one or more entries—each must be their own original work and reflect this year’s theme, “I Belong!”

Each entry must be accompanied by an artist statement (10–100 words) describing how the piece relates to the theme. Work will be judged on creativity and interpretation—not technical skill—so students of all experience levels are encouraged to participate!

Visual Arts

This category includes drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, printmaking, and other forms of two-dimensional art. Students are encouraged to explore visual storytelling and self-expression.

Literature
